Water Testing

Many doctors praise the health benefits of drinking plenty of water. Public water sources are government regulated and required to be tested regularly but private well are not. Our water can look clear and taste great but it could still be contaminated with harmful pollutants. Many contaminants are odorless colorless and tasteless but may still be very harmful especially over time. We use a Government Accredited Certified Laboratory to analyze all of our water tests. Our average turnaround time for Real Estate tests is 3-5 business days after sample collection. Our reports are easy to understand and we will email you the report along with fact sheets, if applicable (if contaminants are found), as soon as we receive it from our lab. If you have any questions just call, we will be happy to go over your test results with you. Gene has been laboratory trained to assure the correct sampling and transportation protocols are followed. He has also been trained in the use of proper water sample perseveration techniques including the addition of water sample preservatives that are only available to, and should only be handled by, trained personnel. We only test, we do not sell any water treatment or remediation equipment which gives our clients the peace of mind of knowing their analytical results remain unbiased, there is never any conflict of interest. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) recommends that everyone should have their water tested at least once per year.

Total coliform and E.coli water test is a basic test for the presence or absence of these harmful bacteria. This package has a 3 business day turnaround time. The MCL (Maximum Contaminant Level) is 0 which means no level is safe, water must be totally Absent of these very harmful bacteria. Total Coliform is a broad category of bacteria which forms colonies. Coliform bacteria indicates contamination and requires further investigation. E.coli (Escherichia coli) is one example of coliform bacteria. E.coli can be extremely pathogenic and cause infections with very high mortality rates, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with a compromised immune system. Since anyone can get very ill from Total Coliform and/or E.coli any contamination with these harmful bacteria is considered an acute health violation that will invoke a boil-water order.
FHA/VA water test is a package that usually covers the basic requirements of an FHA or VA loan. This package includes testing for Total Coliform, E.coli, Nitrate, Nitrite, and Lead. Please check with your bank/loan officer to make sure these are the only contaminants required at your particular bank since different banks may have different requirements; other contaminants may be added for an additional fee. Total Coliform and E.coli are described above.

Nitrate comes from the natural decay of organic matter, is a common byproduct of sanitary waste treatment and is also found in high amounts in fertilizer. Nitrate can affect the blood causing decreased oxygen carrying capacity in infants and some adults. This can lead to methemoglobinemia (Blue Baby Syndrome).

Nitrite is a common byproduct of sanitary waste treatment and is very similar to Nitrate, however it can cause blood to have decreased oxygen carrying capacity in anyone. Nitrite, once digested, can also form into nitrosamines that can cause cancer.

Lead is a metal with high toxicity, especially in children and pregnant women. It causes numerous health disorders and reduces IQ scores. Lead usually comes from corrosion of pipes, solder and plumbing fixtures.

These are the basic water tests that we offer but customized packages can be ordered depending on your concerns and budget. If you would like to discuss other options that are available please feel free to contact our office.
